Biography

Samuel Eto'o Fils made an impressive impact on the world´s soccer stage while still a teenager. He has exceptional physical qualities and made the leap to European football at the tender age of just 16 when Real Madrid signed him, only to then loan him out to the Spanish Segunda A team Leganés. At 17 years and 3 months he became the youngest player at the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France and was the only player who had been born in the '80's.


After his spell at Leganés he went on loan to RCD Espanyol (1998-1999) but played very little and subsequently returned to Real Madrid (1999-2000). During the 1999-00 season he started to play for RCD Mallorca eventually spending four seasons (until 2004) with the Balearic Island club sharing his transfer rights with Real Madrid.


During his time with Mallorca he became the highest ever league goal scorer in the history of the club, scored an amazing 54 goals. He signed for Barca in the summer of 2004 for a transfer fee of €24 mill. after a long series of three-way negotiations involving RCD Mallorca and eternal rivals Real Madrid, finally becoming the first Cameroonian player to wear the Barça colours.


Since then, the Cameroon international star has become a vital goal maching, scoring 25 goals in his first season and making a huge contribution to winning the championship. His goal against Levante clinched the league title and it took him just 67 appearances to reach the landmark figure of 50 goals, outstripping some of the great Barca legends of the past.
Since he joined the Club he has been chosen as African Player of the Year (2004) and picked up third place in the FIFA World Player of the Year (2005). He is a full international and one of the outstanding players in the Cameroon team and has a huge popular following in his country.

Etoo moved from RCD Mallorca to FC Barcelona for a transfer fee of 24.000.000€ in the summer of 2004. Samuel Eto'o has contract with FC Barcelona until 30th June of 2009.
