Mexican stopper/midfielder Rafael Marquez is more than happy to extend his stay with FC Barcelona. The classy defensive allrounder is under contract with the Blaugrana until 2007 and is willing to sit down with Barça sport director Txiki Beguiristain to renew his contract. Marquez on this desire to stay with the Catalan giants: “I am happy in Barcelona because I am playing for the greates club and the best team in the world. I would love to renew my contract!” He added: “If it would only depend on me, I would extend my contract with Barça right here and now.”


Marquez joined FC Barcelona from AS Monaco in 2003 and played a vital role to clinge the Spanish championship title last season as well as being an important member of Frank Rijkaard’s Primera leaders this season.
