Florentino Perez has just resigned as president of Real Madrid. Perez confirmed his decision to resign at a press conference at the club's Bernabeu stadium, saying: "I called this extraordinary general meeting because I believe we needed a change. Having analysed the situation I considered that this was the time for me to step down. I presented my resignation this afternoon because I believe this will be a change for the best. It is a decision I have thought hard about."
Vice-President Fernando Martin will take over the presidency until the new elections. Fernando Martin is one of the most trusted member of Florentino's 'White Club'.

Florentino was extremely courteous in his conference, which finished just moments ago in the Ciudad Deportiva Del Real Madrid. Rumours are going around that behind the scenes some pressure had been enforced on Florentino Perez's to resign. The move comes just one day after Real's hugely disappointing 2-1 defeat to struggling Mallorca. The defeat left the "Merengues" ten points behind league leaders FC Barcelona and without any chance to win La Liga this year.

Despite spending over € 750 Mio. in new players such as Ronaldo, Figo, Zidane and Beckham over the last 6 years the club have not won any major silverware since 2003 and look likely to finish this season empty-handed following a string of disappointing recent results. Real were knocked out of the Copa del Rey semi-finals by Real Zaragoza earlier this month after losing the first leg 6-1, and they also suffered a 1-0 defeat in the first leg of their Champions League encounter with Arsenal last week.

The Iron Man of Madrid leaves the White House (La Casa Blanca)but he leaves a big mess. What happened to the "Royal" Club of Madrid?

Our Opinion: Thinking long term, this isn't good news for Barça. Mister Florentino was definitely the perfect President to destroy Real Madrid. He did his job to perfection. Thanks for everything, Florentino. Thanks for coming into the world of football 6 years ago and thanks for running Real Madrid´s as president. We just hope you turn your back on football and do not try to do this with any other football Club.
