It is correct, that Henry can not leave before summer 2007 without the agreement of Arsenal, but Arsenal would have only the choice between receiving a nice transfer fee now or letting him go on a bosman free transfer 1 year later. Hmm, if I would be Arsenal, I would know what to do. Take the money and look for a top class replacement that receives a new contract for 3-5 years.
It is also right, that under FIFA rules, no written agreement can be signed while a player is longer than 6 month under contract and Arsenal has given their permission to talk to the player. This is why no written agreement is in place (and therefore anything can change until contracts are signed). But you should know, that reality (unfortunately) is different in the world of football. And trust me, if you're suggesting this is a deal already done with the club's approval and somehow the hundreds of media hounds climbing all over Arsenal have all missed the story of the century, well...you're dreaming.

3. Even as I say Henry could wind up at Barca, I truly do wonder why it makes sense from either side -- this is ASSUMING he decided to leave Arsenal, which I seriously doubt he will. Barca has a thousand great players up front now. You think Thierry just wants to ride along to have his picture taken with the CL trophy. For that matter, unless Barca has unlimited funs (doubtful), why wouldn't their superstar signing be somebody like Lampard, Gerrard or Kaka who can supply all these scorers? Henry's a great player, one of the best, but an odd fit for a team that's already loaded at the same position.

4. Don't be too hard on these Arsenal supporters who've been screaming on this blog. They've had to listen to so much crap for so long that it DOES make you want to yell. And I'm sorry because Barca isn't the worst offender, but most of the nonsense keeps coming from Spain -- where fans are still throwing bananas at black players. 5. Even if Henry doesn't extend his Arsenal contract this summer (again, unlikely), why would Arsenal sell him then? I have to answer you because I do not agree with most parts of your opinion and I also think that most of the commentors are too excited and do not think about what we really said.

1. I agree that Henry loves Arsenal and that he has got a desire to play for the Club, especially after a long and such a successful time. He has to thank the Club for a lot of things and I am sure he is grateful for this. i also agree totally that this does NOT rule out a sale. Especially when it is his last contract he has to sign. Why should he not desire a new challenge? Why does he as a french man not want to change climate and play for the biggest football club in the world (about 125,000 members). It is a dream for any football player to play in front of 100,000 fans.
He is guranteed European football (FC Barcelona is the only Club who has been in every year present in European football).
We are talking about a professional football player who earns his money by kicking against a ball and is generally tempted to take a good offer.
I can see that joining FC Barcelona is an excellent challenge for him.

2. Whoever reads the article should have read carefully and understood that Barcelona is in pole position to sign the player when he leaves the Club. Pole Position means start of the race not finishing first!!! Also the post mentiones that the president and people in the board room and around are saying that this verbal agreement exist. We believe in this information because until today we always received reliable information from our sources. But it is up to you to believe it or not. If you think, you know better, this is fine because you are entitled to express your view. but as a professional journalist (if you write for football) you should know that FC Barcelona, Arsenal FC and Thierry Henry have already negotiatede in the summer, but a transfer was not concluded because of the high transfer fee asked by Arsenal (they had too because only stupid money would have justified a Henry sale to the fans). so, why should there not a transfer this summer, the last time Arsenal can cash in on their star player?
It is funny, that you can promise that here is no verbal agreement. Where is your proof? It s difficult to proof, the same we can not that one exsists. We both can only say, what we know from our sources that we believe in. By the way, it seems that spanish journalists are not missing the story of the century (hmm, a bit much isn´t it? I guess the story of the century would be if Ronnie would join arsenal when they are not playing champions league!). May be, the involved parties in Spain let information leak to the press while in England people are more serious (this is a compliment) and do not give this information away (especially the player).
Another good reason is not to anounce anything as long as arsenal is challenging for the Champions League. If I would be Henry I would make sure I would not want to be the scape goat, when Arsenal exist the Competition (a possibility against Juventus).

3. Here I absolutely disagree with you entirely but I think an excuse is that you follow arrsenal and not FC Barcelona. First of all FC Barcelona has to replace 2 strikers (Henrik Larsson and Maxi). Larsson leaves Barca and Maxi has no future at all. so, may be 1 striker is not enough. Second, FC Barcelona has got fantastic offensive players, but they are very versatile, so they can play any position up front. Every player (even Etoo) can play on the left and on the right, central, as offensive midfielder on the wings behind the strikers), whatever you want. Third, Rijkaard wants to change his playing system from 4-3-3 to 4-2-2 which again would perfectly fit Henry on the left and Etoo on the right. With Ronaldinho left and Messi right (central midfield the choice of Deco, Xavi, Edmilson, Iniesta). Sounds like a great team to me!
The only position they really need a top player is the right (wing) back (and the replacement for Larsson/Maxi, of course)

4. No comment - you would not like to hear what I have to say to this and I do not want to put more oil into the fire!

5. You as a journalist should know that there is even a new FIFA rule that says that a player above 28 years can leave the Club for a compansation. If there is a dispute about the transfer fee, FIFA will set this transfer fee. Henry´s transfer fee is valued 15 Mio. Believe it or not, look into FIFA rules (even the football manager games have this new rule!). FC Barcelona is even willing to pay the 15 Mio. (may be this is the verbal agreement?) but will let FIFA set the transfer fee if Arsenal asks for more. Everybody knows that if Henry wants to join Barcelona, that Arsenal has no chance to sell him to another Club. So, there is no chance of trying to sell him to somebody else. And for sure not in January. Why should Henry leave in January, when he can sit out 4 more month (the season is over in May) and go on a Bosman free. he can add the transfer fee on his salary.

You are right that we are not lying and we only write what we believe is true. Why shouldn´t we, when the information up to now were good and reliable.

Anyway, it is up to Thierry Henry to stop all the rumours. if he signs the contract that is on the table, all speculation is over. And we were completely wrong and have to eat our words.
I am just wondering why the player who loves the club so much and is in debt to his mentor Wenger does not sign the paper or makes a clear promise to all Gooners? What is he waiting for?
