Benfica coach and Ex-Barca captain Ronald Koeman was delighted by the performance of his Benfica team in a thrilling but goalless draw with FC Barcelona at Estadio Da Luz in Lisbon yesterday night.
Benfica, clear underdogs in the UEFA Champions League quarter final tie produced a defiant display and despite having a lot of luck not to loose the match, they could have scored the winner just before the end of the game. Benfica coach Koeman revealed his side employed a double marking system: "We had double marking - Ricardo Rocha with Ronaldinho and Beto with Deco." Further he added: "We created chances as Barca had as well so we can be satisfied."
But Benfica coach Koeman also wrongly claimed that his side should have had a penalty for handball against Thiago Motta who blocked Geovanni's goalbound shot midway through the second half but Motta´s hand went clearly away from the ball: "We deserved one penalty for handball - we did not have luck on some occasions but did have at other times."
Ronald Koeman summed up his team´s performance gainst FC Barcelona on the night: "We can be pleased with our night's work."
