FC Barcelona´s striker Samuel Eto'o scored 26th goal goals this season. An astonishing amount considering he was absence for nearly 2 month due to the African Cup of Nations. His goal against Athletic Bilbao on Saturday made him the sole leader in La Liga, followed by young striker David Villa from FC Valencia. For the tenth time, the leading goalscorer in the Spanish First Division is a FC Barcelona player. Nine different players in a Barca shirt have all finished top scorer in the Spanish Primera Liga: Mariano Martín (1942-43), César Rodríguez (1948-49), Cayetano Re (1964-65), Carles Rexach (1970-71), Hans Krankl (1978-79), "Quini"(twice: 1980-81 and 1981-82), Romario (1993-94), Ronaldo (1996-97) and now Samuel Eto'o in the season 2005/2006.

The highest goal scorer ever in a Barcelona jersey was Ronaldo with 34 goals in the season 1996-97.

Barca´s Eto'o and Valencia´s Villa were both on 25 goals before Barca had to play the last match of the season. Due to the fact that Samuel Eto'o had to play for his country Cameroon in the African Cup of Nations, Eto'o was only able to play 33 matches. His goal average is impressive: 0.76 goals per game. David Villa played 37 and has a goal average of 0.68 per game played.

FC Barcelona Blog knows how much Samuel desired this Pichichi Award having lost out on the final match day to Villareal´s Diego Forlan last season. We congratulate Sammy to the best goalscorer award in La Liga this season!
