The football season is over and the World Cup is on our doorstep. Time to review and praise Barca´s season 2005/2006:

I can just say:

"What a wonderful season for FC Barcelona and all Culés!"

The Trophies

We won the Spanish Super Cup at the start of the season. Then we defended the Spanish Championship Title with a big margin over arch-rivals Real Madrid and finally the big prize that we all desired so much: The Champions League Trophy!

Individual Awards
On top of all this, Barca players won a slew of individual prizes and awards such as:

"World´s Best Player"

Ronaldinho

"Africa's Best Player"

Samuel Eto'o

"World´s Best Young Player"

Lionel Messi.

The 'Pichichi'
I am also very happy to see Samuel Eto'o scoring his 26th goals of the season against Bilbao to lift the "Pichichi", having scoring so many crucial goals for Barca this season. Especially gratifying, considering how he lost out to Forlan on the last match day, last season. Without question, his most important goal was the eqalizer in the final against Arsenal that turned the match around.

Playing with Class

But for the Barca fans the most important fact is that we won with style and dignity. We dominated La Liga for the whole year and demonstrated some breathtaking football. In Europe we were firm the favourites to win the Champions League and we went the whole way right up to the final whistle.
The entire team celebrated football on the pitch and (nearly) all matches have been a "Fiesta" with outstanding quality football, with a special thanks to world´s best player currently and main attraction: Ronaldinho Gaucho!

The Magician

Everytime I walked into the Nou Camp this year, I kept asking myself, what will the magician wearing '10' come up with next? What kind of magic will we experience this time and what acrobatic trick will we see that the world has not seen before? Just incredible and a delight to watch.
This is the kind of football that any supporter is happy to pay money to see and enjoy - Ronaldinho: Simply The Best Player in The World

The Highlight?

Of course, winning the European Cup. But apart from that, it must be "Bernabeu" and the spectacular performance with the fantastic 2 goals of Ronaldinho against Real Madrid. I will never forget the faces of the Merengues (specially Casillas) and the applause for the "Maestro" from the Madrid crowed.
It was a historic moment and was the classical example of the souvereignity of the Barca team throuout the season. It was the icing on the cake when you saw how demoralised and dejected our arch rivals became. It would be nice if this could become the norm, but in reality, its highly unlikely. But I am proud of this Barca team and that I could be there to experience this priceless moment.

Next Season

The season is over and I am already looking forward to the 2006/2007 season with even more Cups and silverware to win!
As well as the usual three campaigns, Copa del Rey, La Liga and Champions League, FC Barcelona will also compete for three other important titles:

Spanish Super Cup against city-rival Espanyol
European Super Cup against FC Sevilla

World Club Championship in Japan

The World Club Championship has replaced the former Intercontinental Cup and is one of the few trophies that Barcelona has yet to win. The first effort failed against Brazilian side Sao Paulo in 1992 in Tokyo.

FC Barcelona, the OFFICIAL Club Champions of the world, a title that sounds good to me!

FC Barcelona Blog thanks FC Barcelona for all the entertainment, joy and delight of the past season. Do it again, Barca!

Visca el Barca!
