Johan Cruyff, former star player and manager of Barca´s dream team received the Laureus World Sports Award for his career in football at the official gala in Barcelona´s "Fòrum de las Culturas" on Monday night. The Laureus Awards, which this year are celebrating their seventh edition, are the equivalent of the film industry's Oscars.
The football team of FC Barcelona (World Team of the Year), Ronaldinho (World Sportsman of the Year) and Leo Messi (World Newcomer of the Year) were also nominated. The Club was represented at the official ceremony by Barca president Joan Laporta, vice-presidents Ferran Soriano and Marc Ingla and board member Clàudia Vives Fierro.



Other teams and athlets that have been honoured during the Lareus Gala included tennis players Rafael Nadal, Martina Hingis and Roger Federer, the Renault Formula 1 team, Croatian skier Janica Kostelic, and motorcyclist Valentino Rossi.
