FC Barcelona´s new signing Eidur Gudjohnsen claims that Barca plays in a complete different league to his former club Chelsea.


The Iceland international feels that he is making a huge step up in his career by joining Champions League winner and back-to-back Spanish Champions, FC Barcelona. The former Chelsea forward is eager to get started for the biggest football club in the world, one which oozes history and in front of a 100,000 crowd at Camp Nou.

He revealed that Chelsea made huge progress with the money of Roman Abramovich and under the management of Jose Mourinho in recent years but are no match to Barcelona yet:

"Chelsea have spent a lot in the last two years since Roman Abramovich came but Barcelona are better than them in all departments. Chelsea have improved a lot under Mourinho but Barcelona are where Chelsea want to be and the success of Barcelona is also a question of history. They have always been there while Chelsea have not."

On Barca TV, Gudjohnsen continued to revealed that he did not have to think twice before joining FC Barcelona and a deal was struck quickly, once Barca and Chelsea agreed on a transfer fee. He also told Barca TV in his interview that he has not signed for Barcelona to warm the substitute bench and that he will concentrate now to get a place in the starting eleven:

"My intention now is to make it difficult for Rijkaard to pick the starting eleven. I will look to do my best and then the manager will decide. In this team everyone will have chances."
