Real Madrid have announced that Ramon Calderón is the club's new president.
Former Board Member Ramon Calderón received just 346 more votes than second placed Juan Palacios and 1,642 more than third placed candidate Juan Manuel Villar Mir, but has been declared the winner and presented as the new president of the Merengues. Doubts about the legal correctness of the results arose, when candidate Villar Mir threatened with legal action, if the postal votes would not be counted. A judge stated days before the election that the postal votes should not be counted to avoid any claims of corruption.

After an emergency meeting at the club on Monday morning the Electoral Committee decided, after consulting lawyers about the duration of the legal process, to declare Calderon the winner and simply ignored the postal ballot.

3rd placed Juan Manuel Villar Mir revealed he would challenge the ruling, but the election committee simply rejected his complaint and pushed ahead with announcing the winning candidate.

The quick decision was justified by Real Madrid´s board due to the necessity to install a president, so the new president can begin his work on rebuilding the club and its first team before the new season starts.

Calderon appointed former Real player Predrag Mijatovic as the director of sport and promised to sign Fabio Capello as the new coach in the next few days. Calderon further promissed in Florentino Perez Style the players Kaká, Cesc Fábregas and Arjen Robben to the Real fans if he would win the election.

All the world will watch him, if he can keep the promisses made. But we can all be sure that there will be a round 3 of the Real Madrid election saga coming soon. FC Barcelona Blog will keep you posted...
