FC Barcelona coach Frank Rijkaard will be able to count on his Spanish international stars Carles Puyol, Xavi Hernandez and Andres Iniesta as well as new-signing Icelandic international Gudjohnsen for the Spanish Super Cup Final first leg against Espanyol that is scheduled for August, 17.

Finally, the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) have agreed to re-schedule the international friendly match between Spain and Iceland from the 16th of August to August, 15. This will guarantee Barca the opportunity to field the 4 international stars.
The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has partially dodged the disaster that emerged by controversially demanding the Super Cup to be played on Aug, 17 and Aug, 20 - knowing that up to 9 international Barca stars would be on duty for their home countries.

Having solved this part of the problem the other scheduling issue needs to be dealt with, involving Brazil, France and Holland, hoping at the same time Argentina, Portugal and Mexico will not be involed in any last-minute friendly games.

Barça, on a point of principle, will never undertake any moves to any federation to free their international players. This, despite the fact that it was the RFEF in Madrid who are respionsible responsible for the whole debacle and the clubs feels that the Spanish football federation has a responsibility to ensure that the best possible squads will play the prestigious Spanish Super Cup.

FC Barcelona Blog feels that this is another big mess that the Madrid based Football Federation got Barca in. Barcelona´s Txiki Begiristain and Espanyol officials (who actually handled the affair fairly), have travelled all the way to Madrid to bring their case and suggestions to the RFEF´s attention but have been stubbornly ignored. Espanyol and FC Barcelona are keen to field the best possible teams and feel that it is also in the Federation's own interest to guarantee that the best players play to avoid undermining the status of the Spanish Super Cup.
Fans and supporters all over Spain deserve to see the highest level of football. Hopefully the RFEF gets a move on, talks to the other Federations and make the players available to take part in the Spanish Super Cup. Unfortunetly, we doubt this!
