FC Barcelona officials are ready for the big coup! Director of Football Txiki Begiristain and Vice-President Ferran Soriano have landed in Turin and held a summit with Juventus directors yesterday.
Barca has taken pole position in the chase for Italian international full back Gianluca Zambrotta, French international defender Lilian Thuram and, surprisingly, inquired about the services for David Trezeguet. Barca is ready for the final showdown talks this afternoon while their rivals Chelsea and Real Madrid are still using intermediaries and telephone.
Juventus praised Barca's direct and open approach and are reported to be keen to strike several deals with the Spanish and European champions. Juve bosses and especially president Gigli are very happy with the professional and fair approach of the Barca directors and indicated their happiness to letting their players move to Barcelona, while they oppose any deals with their enemy in the scandal, Milan, or let their former coach Fabio Capello exploit a wounded Juventus.
SPORT reported this morning that Juventus bosses have named their prices for all the players Barca are interested:
20 million Euros for the Thuram/Zambrotta package and
20 million Euros for David Trezeguet
However, Barcelona have a different idea but put some very interesting proposals for Juventus forward:
Free transfer for veteran defender Thuram -
15 million Euros for Zambrotta (if Thuram joins on a free transfer)
Barca also offered loan deals or buy-back options for both players, Zambrotta and Trezeguet should Juventus be interested to keep an option for a return of the players to the "Old Lady".
Today we'll see the final showdown between Juventus and FC Barcelona. Juventus, happy with Barca´s fair approach, already allowed Barcelona directors to speak to the players and their agents to help to strike a deal.
