The world Cup winner and ex-Juventus player Gianlucca Zambrotta has broken his silence through FC Barcelona´s oficial website and highlighted the strong potential of the Barça squad going into the 2006-07 season.






Gianluca Zambrotta is enjoying his first few days as a Barcelona player. At the moment, he is relaxing on a seaside holiday in Sicily, from where he chatted to the FC Barcelona website.



The Italian defender full back is thrilled to have joined such a big club and has said he is leaving Italy

while being grateful to Juventus and all their fans. It will be a pleasure to share a dressing room with men like Ronaldinho, Puyol, Deco, Eto'o and Messi.

I am very happy to become an FC Barcelona player. I have come to a big club that can achieve incredible things. Now a new adventure starts and I am looking forward to it.

Zambrotta explains why he has chosen FC Barcelona instead of other great offers he had:

Barça is one of the strongest teams in the world and that is why I chose to come. Apart from the city, the people, the players, the manager, everything together led to me to take this step.

About Barça's coach, Frank Rijkaard in particular and about the catalan team in general, Gianluca said:

We spoke on the phone and he congratulated me on winning the World Cup. Then he rang me just before I signed for Barcelona. And he is well aware of all the good work I have done over the last few years.

Barça have played the most spectacular football in the world in recent years. It is a pleasure to form part of a group including such stars as Ronaldinho, Deco, Messi, Eto'o, Puyol and all the others.

I don't know where I will play yet. At Juve I have played left back in recent years, but I have played more on the right for Italy. Now it is up to the boss to decide where I play, but I won't be causing any problems.

Zambrotta also gave his opinion about Thuram and Gudjohnsen, he believes that the arrivals of the French defender and Iceland striker will help Barça to have a lot of quality and quantity.

I have known him for five years. He is a great player, a star, and also a lovely person. I am sure that for the first few days, as we both speak Italian, we will be good for each other. Barcelona have made a great signing.
