FC Barcelona stars Xavi Hernández and Carles Puyol will not travel to Reykjavik, Iceland with the Spanish national team.
After medical checks in Madrid, the Spanish Federation decided to rest Xavi and Puyol and travel to Iceland without the Barcelona pair. Both Barça players have been excused by the Spanish Federation after taking medical checks in Madrid.
But Andrés Iniesta for Spain and Eidur Gudjohnsen for Iceland have been called up by their national coaches and will take part in the match.
Edmílson will be the only other Barça player who will miss the Super Cup Final first leg against Espanyol due to international duty. The Brazilian midfielder will be joining his national team for a friendly match against Norway.
Italian World Champion Gianluca Zambrotta has not been included by new Italian national coach Roberto Donadoni for the friendly against Croatia. Donadoni decided to try new players and that the international match comes to early for the world cup players that have only returned from holiday recently.
