FC Bayern Munich team manager Uli Hoeness confirmed that the German Champions and Cup Winners are set to sign Barca´s Mark Van Bommel for about € 12 Mill. before the transfer deadline on August, 31.
Bayern Munich´s Hoeness claimed they have agreed a deal to sign the Dutch midfielder and the 29-year-old holland international will undergo a medical next week when the deal is finalised in Munich.
Bild, Europe´s biggest tabloid, repoorted that Hoeness told Pay TV station Arena: "We have a strong agreement with FC Barcelona. Van Bommel is coming next week to Munich. If he gets through the medical without any problems, he will sign a three-year deal."
Bayern tried to sign van Bommel earlier this year before the World Cup but the Dutch midfielder rejected a move at this time. Bayern Munich coach Felix Magath is a big admirer of Van Bommel and after loosing captain Michael Ballack to Chelsea and Brazilian international Zé Roberto, both on a free transfer, Bayern is desperate to add some power in the engine room.
Mark Van Bommel has been playing since 1 year at Camp Nou after his arrival from PSV Einhoven but was not able to nail down a regular place in Frank Rijkaards star studded squad. Mark Van Bommel was not called up by Holland´s Bond´s coach Marco Van Basten for the last intenational match and also plays no part in the next two matches in September. the Barca midfielder will have more chances to get back into the "Oranje" team, when he plays as a regular at Germany´s record champions Bayern Munich then possibly sitting on the bench at Barcelona.
A transfer makes sense for both, Barca and Mark Van Bommel.
Now, it is also clear why Mark Van Bommel did not figure much in Frank Rijkaards plans in recent matches, except playing one half against... Bayern Munich!
