FC Barcelona had in total 8 players away on international duty on Wednesday evening. After Ronaldinho´s impressive second half performance for Brazil against Ecuador on Tuesday night, Xavi, Iniesta, Messi, Saviola Zambrotta, Gio, Gudjohnsen and Deco appeared in Euro 2008 qualifiers and friendly matches:


Spain - Argentina 2:1
FC Barcelona had 4 players involved in this friendly match, Xavi and Andres Iniesta appeared for Spain, while Leo Messi and Javier Saviola played for Argentina. Xavi opened the scoring for the home side with a fine long distance shot and he also supplied Fernando Torres with a golden opportunity. Iniesta assisted Xavi for the first goal, before winning the penalty for Spain. David Villa converted the penalty for the 2-1 win. Messi was the best player for the Argentinian team and set up argentina´s equalizer. In the 62th minute, Messi was replaced by teammate Saviola.


Iceland - Sweden 1:2


Icelandic took an early lead through Vidarsson in the 6th minute but finally was beaten by Sweden (goals by Källström 6´ and Wilhelmson 59´). Barca´s forward Eidur Gudjohnsen had a chance to equalise towards the end but missed a good opportunity.


Georgia - Italy 1:3

Gianluca Zambrotta made a successful return to Italy´s starting line-up. One of Zambrotta´s trademark runs assisted Roma´s Perotta to score. Goals: De Rossi 16´, Camoranesi 61´, Perrota 71´ for Italy and Shashiashvili 26´ for Gergia


Poland - Portugal 2:1
Poland´s Smolarek scored twice. Deco was substituted for Maniche in the 83rd minute. Deco played a good match but could not help his team to get a result in Poland. Nuno Gomes scored late for Portugal in the 90th minute.


Holland - Albania 2:1

Van Persie (14´) Beqaj (o.g. 41´)for Holland and Curri (67´)for Albania scored. Gio Van Bronckhorst played 67 minutes in the victory over Albania in the Amsterdam ArenA, before being substituted. Holland leads Group C with ten points.
