Real Sociedad´s new coach Miguel Angel Lotina is interested to sign FC Barcalona´s left wing forward Santiago Ezquerro during the winter period.

The former Athletic Bilbao forward Ezquerro moved to Camp Nou at the beginning of last season on a free transfer, but could not make a great impact and has therefore been left out of the star studded Barca first team most of the time.

Former Espanyol coach Lotina who took over La Liga´s current bottom club about 2 weeks ago, wishes to hand Ezquerro a life line and would like to release the 29-year old forward from his footballing exile. Lotina is planning to restructure Real Sociedad´s squad and is very keen on signing Ezquerro to add some quality to his attacking line.

Lotina confirmed:

It is clear that I am interested in him. If he said yes, then I would drive down there now and pick him up in my car.

Ezquerro has suffered this season with a thigh injury, but was on target in midweek as Barca cruised to victory against Badalona in the cup.

Despite his lack of opportunities, the 29-year-old is no hurry to leave the Catalan giants and has claimed that he will only leave if it is clear he is no longer wanted.

Despite lack of playing opportinities, Santi Ezquerro only wants to leave Barca, when coach Frank Rijkaard will not count on him anymore and explained to catalan RAC Radio:
My plan is to stay here. It was always my dream to play for this club and I hope I can stay in the coach's plans. If the club ever says to me that they no longer need me, then we shall have to see what happens.
