FC Barcelona´s French veteran defender Lilian Thuram will be out for at least 5 weeks due to a torn hamstring in his left leg. Thuram planned to go to Guadalupe over Christmas and was planning to recover from his injury there but has changed his mind. Thuram will stay in Barcelona and will start his recovery programme already today.

Lilian Thuram picked up the injury on Thursday in the last match of the year 2006 against Athletico. The Barca doctors hope Thuram will be fully fit by ty the start of February. This means Barca´s veteran defender would miss the two Copa del Rey encounters against Alaves and the La Liga encounters against Getafe, Espanyol, Nastic, Betis and Celta.

Team mate Italian world champion Gianluca Zambrotta is recovering from a similar injury and despite missing out the January swchedule, both players are expected to be back as the season reaches the important part of the season when the Champions League starts again.
