The New Year 2007 has begun and it is time to check out if Barca is on track to repeat the fantastic success achieved in the season 2005-06.

Compared to the start of the season 200-06, the campaign 2006-07 is equally promissing, despite several major injuries such as star striker Samuel Eto'o and wonderkid Leo Messi.

The Barca team is still on traack to collect silverware in 3 different competitions: La Liga, Copa Del Rey and The UEFA Champions League.

At the end of December 2005, FC Barcelona was at the top of the table with a two-points ahead of surprise package Osasuna, Valencia and Villarreal. Currently Barca is only second in the table, two points behind FC Sevilla but with one more game in hand, the postponed match against Betis.

Despite being only second in the table, the statistics are very similar to the end of December 2005:

Last campaign, Barca had played 17 matches and had gained 40 points (12 wins, 4 draws and 1 defeat). This year, Barca played 15 matches has got 34 points on their account (10 wins, 4 draws and 1 defeat).

Barca has reached the round of the last 16 teams in the UEFA Championsleague competition. Barca will face Liverpool in the two leg encounter while last year it ways Chelsea FC that had been later thrown out by the Blaugrana.

the only slight difference is the Copa Del Rey this year. Last year Barca entered the competition in the round of last 16 while this year, they had to play already in the previous round biut easily defeated neighbours CF Badalona 6-1 on aggegrate. As last year, they are still in the competition.
