3 times African Player of the Year Samuel Eto'o has been nominated again for the award. The African Football Confederation (CAF) has just published its shortlist of candidates for the African Player of the Year and 2003, 2004 and 2005 winner Samuel Eto'o is in the competion final again. The final celebration and election will take part in the Ghana´s capitol Accra on March,1. The three candidates are exactly the same as last year, with Eto'o once again up against the Chelsea duo of Didier Drogba and Michael Essien.
The Cameroon international striker has every chance of beating both, the Ivorian Drogba and Ghanaian Essien after winning the Spanish League and Champions league in 2006 as well as finishing as "Pichichi", top scorer of Spain. Eto'o has been sidelined since month after a stunning start into the season that saw the profilic striker as top scorer of La Liga again. While Drogba for the Ivory Coast and Essien for Ghana, took part in this summer´s world cup, Eto'o and his team team failed to qualify for the world championship.
