FC Barcelona has a very busy schedule in January. A possible amount of 8 matches in only 25 days. But despite having a tight match schedule, FC Barcelona is by far the La Liga team that has played the most official matches this season: 28 matches so far!
The Blaugrana have been competing in 6 different competitions, playing 15 league matches and 6 Champions League matches, as well as 2 legs in the Spanish Super Cup, the European Super Cup Final in Monaco, 2 Copa del Rey matches and 2 matches in the FIFA Clubs World Cup.
Sevilla, Osasuna, Espanyol and Valencia are following Barca with 26 matches, while Real Madrid have only played 24.
The FC Barcelona players deserved the 2 days more holidays, considering that they have not only played more matches but that these matches have been partially very important finals, that generally involve additional psychological and physical pressure and a lot more media attention to cope with. Barça have played in 6 different competitions (Spanish Championship, Spanish Super Cup, Copa Del Rey, European Super Cup, Champions League and FIFA Club World Cup and already appeared in three finals this season (Spanish and European Super Cup and the FIFA Clubs World Cup, with the tiring trip to Yokohama, Japan.
But this is not all for most of the Barca players, who also represent their countries. Puyol, Xavi, Iniesta (all Spain), Deco (Portugal), Zambrotta (Italy), Thuram (France), Gio (Holland), Gudjohnsen (Iceland), Saviola and Messi (both Argentina), Ronaldinho and Edmílson (Brazil).
Getafe, managed by former Barca star Bernd Schuster, have had exactly 8 matches less to play (only 18).
