During this week reports in the Catalan media suggested that FC Barcelona´s Brazilian defender and European Cup hero Juliano Belletti will leave the Camp Nou to play for AC Milan in the next 4 years. Following Belletti´s possible exit, the newspapers are already speculating about Belletti´s successor and came to the conclusion that FC Sevilla´s Daniel Alves would be just the man for the Blaugrana.
Barcelona were already inquiring about the Brazilian´s availability last summer but finally signed Italian world champion Gianluca Zambrotta from Juventus.
Alves had a firm offer from Liverpool FC (also Real Madrid and Chelsea showed their interest) on the table but FC Sevilla president Del Nido demanded € 18 mill. from the Reds and Benitez did not want to fork out so much money.
Dani Alvez signed a new extended contract a few weeks ago on very much improved personal terms and the transfer fee has probably risen over the € 20 mill. mark by now.
Barca is expected to bring in a top right full back in the summer and Alves ios the priority. Barca coach Rijkaard would then shift Zambrotta to the left with either Gio and Sylvinho as his back up. Both veteran left full backs signed 1-year extensions to their contracts, but rumours suggest that one of them will have to leave in the summer.
