President Joan Laporta, director Albert Perrin and technical secretary Txiki Begiristain travelled to Cairo, Egypt. The agreement to stage the match was signed by the presidents of both clubs in the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Cairo with over 200 journalists present.

Al-Ahly´s president Hassan Hamdy stated that it was an honour that European Champions FC Barcelona agreed to participate in the game.

Laporta returned the compliments:

I feel the game is more than just a match, as it is staged between two clubs with a strong and proud history behind them.

Barca and Al-Ahly declared to form an alliance in marketing as well as developing young footballers in a Soccer Academy that will be set up in the future. Al-Ahly officials showed the Barca delegation the club's facilities on Tuesday. The Al-Ahly Heliopolis comprises swimming pools, tennis courts and small-sided football pitches.
