The website infoesports.com reported yesterday about Xabi Alonso´s desire to play for FC Barcelona. The webservice suggested that Xabi Alonso has an admiration for Barca and would love to wear a Blaugrana shirt. Alonso already considered to join FC Barcelona from Real Sociedad before he signed for Liverpool. Infoesport also claims that there has been no contact between Barca and Xabi or his representative and that Alonso is very happy at Liverpool. The only thing that could change this situation would be a call from Barca and if the two clubs would agree a transfer.

A transfer of the Spanish international Xabi Alonso from Liverpool to FC barcelona is very unlikely. It looks like the Basque midfielder will play at Anfield in the next year because:

1. Rafa Benitez has no intention to go into Liverpool´s next season without Xabi Alonso.

2. New owner´s Gillete & Hicks are keen to keep their stars for a long term. Therefore a contract extension and improvement for Xabi is on the agenda

3. FC Barcelona has never shown a special interest to land the player. Even as the report of infoesport.com says, there has and had been no contact so far. Barca is looking for a central, defensive midfielder who plays more defensively than Xabi Alonso.

4. Under all this circumstances a transfer would be very costly and under current prudent financial management of Barca, the club is not prepared to pay "silly" money. Due to the fact, that Alonso would not be considered a "crack", the Blaugrana´s current wage structure would not allow to sign him.

Logically, a transfer is not on the agenda. I guess, FC Barcelona have to look at other players than Xabi Alonso.

This is tedious. Why even bother reporting the article? In England we're getting bored with this childish attitude from Spain. When Real or Barca want a player or rather some prick in a suit wants to protect his Presidency, there's a piece in one of the many football comics (eh, sorry papers(??) saying this or that top name will be begging to leave his club to join them.

With no Spanish side left in the Cl this would be a step down. Perhaps you need a complete change of approach if you are to be taken seriously.

De acuerdo?

Fluent in every language the Scouse Billy! (Just joking).
I really do not understand why you bother comment on this subject here? I would understand, if you would comment about this on infoesports.com. It is rubbish and I agree with you (acuerdo!). So, where do we need the different approach?

Spanish Football Comics? Hmm, I have heard of the English SUN. You as a Scouser should know what I am talking about. In this case, I prefer a bit of a laugh and choose the comic. What about you?

Sometimes, it just takes the away goal rule to go to the next round. Luck, may be, may be not, but not a huge sign of dominance or "step back".

But I do not chew sour grapes. Well done and good luck!

True that Billy, every election, players from the English top four & possibly Italy are used as bargaining chips;so until they signs, you could always take it with a pinch of salt...
By the way Barca doesn't need Alonso, they already have Xavi & he's class...
