FC Barcelona are reportedly due for a Thursday date to open offer discussions on Chivu.

By the end of today, Barcelona are expected to confirm their interest over Roma player, Chivu, who has been associated with the club in recent transfer news.

The Romanian was almost certain to lace his boots for Serie A Champions, Inter Milan before news of Barca's interest flew in. Chivu then put a hold on the accelerating talks with Inter, as the creative player is more disposed toward moving abroad to another League to experience the other side of soccer life outside the Serie A, but still in an equally competitive League.
The Barcelona alternative thus became very attractive to Chivu as playing for the Catalans will meet all his goals at the same time, which includes playing for a top rated club in a quality League and experiencing the thrills of a new environment in Spain.

The reported news states:

Barcelona have already expressed great interest in Chivu. The defender has already indicated his availability, and by Thursday, there should be concrete contact.

Barcelona are continuing their build up ahead of next season and will step up activities in certain terms after the current Spanish League season ends on Sunday.

yes, there is a source to it but as it is in football it can change any time. I know the sport director of Roma personally, but he of course, does not confirm anything. But the interest by Barca has been registered.
