Eidur Gudjohnsen may slip through Celtic's fingers unless an urgent move is made.
Celtic's United Kingdom colleagues, Newcastle FC of England have emerged from the back door as favourites, with a sudden reported trip to Barcelona by the Newcastle Manager himself, Sam Allardyce, who has flown in to convince Barcelona to release Eidur to the English Premiership side. In order to ensure Gudjohnsen is secured, Newcastle is offering to buy Barca's Brazilian midfielder, Edmilson, even though Edmilson is injured and recently underwent surgery by the Barcelona surgical team.
Newcastle will have to offer something within the vicinty of 10.5 Million Euros for FC Barcelona to accept Gudjohnsen's exit, and Celtic must be prepared to match or to exceed this for the Icelandic star to head northwards toward Scotland. Edmilson may go for around 7 Million Euros, but is not linked to Celtic.
Gudjohnsen has been linked to various English Premiership clubs, most notable of which is Manchester United, and also West Ham along with Portsmouth. The Premiership clubs all wanted Eidur's power play.
However, inspite of the host of English clubs surrounding Gudjohnsen, Celtic looked like a more attractive club for Eidur, who would have looked good striking for the emerging strong midfield of Celtic. Only few days back, the Scottish giants were more favoured than front runners, Man U to land Gudjohnsen. However, with the latest fast move by the Magpies, Newcastle seem to have powered themselves into pole position to sign the Icelandic star who has already played in the English Premiership before with Bolton and Chelsea FC before coming to Camp Nou to strike for FC Barcelona.
Celtic must respond to the Newcastle offer for Eidur Gudjohnsen.
