Christian Chivu calls off all transfer plans and prepares to resume life in Rome.

After talks have broken down between AS Roma's Chivu and FC Barcelona, and also with Real Madrid, Christian Chivu's representative, Guivanni Becali has come out to claim the Romanian is not interested in going to Spain. Speaking to Il Romanista, Becali says:

Madrid does not interest us, nor Barcelona. We have no intention of opening talks with these clubs as he does not want to move abroad and they both know that. He wants to stay in Italy. He wants to stay with Roma and the club know that he is not interested in a transfer. If later on the club needs the money and they want to raise it by selling Christian then that is their task and their decision.

In trying futher to explain the dispute that may have arisen between Chivu's and his representative on one side, and AS Roma on the other side, Guivanni Becali explains that Roma were the one swho unsettled Chivu in the first place and made the Romanian unsettled and triple-minded, with an offer of a last year payment package that was ridiculous. Becali explains:

It was not an offer from a club that truly wants to retain Christian, who can earn much more in any other European team of a similar level. A year ago Roma made us a promise and said that after Totti and Mexes, that Christian was the most important player at the club. They said he was one that they counted on, but the offer they have put forward does relflect those words and Christian is disappointed. Christian will now return for pre-season training and if Roma then decide to sell him, well, that is another matter.

Christian Chivu has one more year to go in AS Roma as his contract expires at the end of the coming season.

Chivu missed a very important opportunity to move to Camp Nou as the Roma defender couldn't make up his mind, after showing interest in three clubs, namely Serie A rivals, Inter Milan, FC Barcelona and Real Madrid. Chivu, who was keen on continuing his career outside Italy, was favoured to marshall the Blaugrana defence next season, until he became double triple-minded, giving room for Barca interest, Gabriel Milito to become the top favoured transfer target for Barca's central defense network.
