The Blaugrana in Iniesta surfaced at the right time to keep Spain on the safer road to Euro 2008.

An 85th minute strike by Barca's Spanish international, Andres Iniesta in a far away windy and rainy city of Reykjavik, Iceland was enough to secure a point for Spain in the group F Euro 2008 qualifier against Iceland. The Spanish side were unsettled with a red card issued to Liverpool star, Xabi Alonso in the 19th minute of the first half after a foul on Iceland's Arnar Vidarsson. Spain struggled to re-organise after that, but couldn't quite settle before a cross from the right by Gudjonsson found Hallfredssson unmarked at the far post. The former Tottenham winger headed the ball into the opposite corner to put Iceland one goal up in the 39th minute.

Luís Aragonés fought back bravely, but had no result for their efforts until five minutes from time when Andres Iniesta sloted the ball past Iceland's goalkeeper Arni Arason.
The result left Spain third in Group F with 16 points from eight games, level with second-placed Northern Ireland and three behind leaders Sweden.
