It's not that Arsenal must be paying this, it's a judgement awarded by a Spanish judge (member of Barca fan club) against Merida. Arsenal is hoped to cover the amount, that's about it. Anyway, the case is not closed and goers to the European Arbitrary court. I suggest you get your records and reporting right. Thank you !

Imo it can become very favorable decision for Arsenal. Merida has all potential to be star player like Cesc, but unlike him, i have no doubt that he and his family are no longer Barca fans :P ...

Haha!!! Barcelona will always want everything for themselves, believing that they play the best soccer forgrtting that presently Arsenal are playing the most sexy football on planet earth today. The fluked aa win even after being assisted in the champions we encountered, it was an insult to we Arsenal fans. And still yet barca want to come swindle money from the emorates after leaning that we had not only beaten them football wise, but also financially. Their bitter rivals are the only perfect match to us but not on the pitch,they eye our finances knowing well enough that Arsenal can be a weaker end. Its' not going to be that easy I think so.

An independent tribunal in Spain ruled that FC Barcelona will be paid a 3.5 Million Euro compensation for the swoop on Fran Merida by Arsenal FC. Merida had signed a pre-contract agreement with them when he was 14, but quit the Catalan club days before his 16th birthday. He then joined Arsenal as a trainee as soon as he was 16. At 17, Fran Merida made his Arsenal first-team debut last month as a substitute in the 2-0 Carling Cup triumph over Newcastle United. Arsenal has offered to pay the fine, as the Gunners believe the Spanish star has the potential to become like his countryman, Cesc Fabregas, who is making waves at Arsenal after growing up in FC Barcelona youth team.
