Barca outshine other teams in the world to produce top-rated players at FIFPro awards.
The Catalan giants added more colour to their already colourful record when they had the most number of players in the FIFPro World XI. Three players from FC Barcelona, Carles Puyol, Ronaldinho and Leo Messi, received FIFPro awards as members of the World Eleven for the 2006/07 season. The ceremony was held in the Camp Nou press room. More than 57,000 footballers from players’ associations around the world chose Puyol, Ronaldinho and Messi as members of the World Eleven of the International Federation of Professional Footballers (FIFPro) for the 2006-07 season.
The three players received their awards at a ceremony held in the press room of the Camp Nou after training on Thursday morning. Also present at the event were FC Barcelona director, Albert Perrin, the secretary general of FIFPro, Theo Van Seggelen, and the secretary general of the Association of Spanish Footballers, Alberto López.
FC Barcelona has more players in the World Eleven than any other club and also contributed more candidates, with ten: Puyol, Ronaldinho, Messi, Abidal, Zambrotta, Deco, Iniesta, Xavi, Eto'o and Henry. The World Eleven for the 2006/07 season is made up of:
Buffon (Juventus), Terry (Chelsea), Cannavaro (Real Madrid), Puyol (FC Barcelona), Nesta (Milan), Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United), Gerrard (Liverpool), Kaká (Milan), Messi (FC Barcelona), Drogba (Chelsea) and Ronaldinho (FC Barcelona). Milan’s Brazilian international Kaká was voted best player of the year.
