Tonight, in the Champions League match between Werder Bremen and European cup holders FC Barcelona, Barca present the new orange away kit for the first time in an official match.
Last season the colour was bright yellow and the shirt became known as the "lucky yellow shirt" as Barca went unbeaten in the Champions League with the yellow shirt. This campaign 2006-07, the team will play in orange, with the unicef logo printed in blue.

The team has already worn the orange kit during the pre-season tour of the United States.

Rijkaard delighted with UNICEF Agreement: "It is something historic"

11th September 2006

FC Barcelona coach Frank Rijkaard is delighted with the five-year agreement between UNICEF and Barca.
After more than one hundred years, the team shirt will finally carry a sponsor logo. Barca was proud to be the only among the big clubs that has never worn a company logo on their shirt. But this will change for the first time tonight. But this is not the usual kind of sponsorship. The club will be promoting worldwide solidarity via UNICEF. An initiative that the Barca coach Rijkaard is very proud to be involved in:

I think it's splendid. It is an act of generosity. Something never seen before in the football world. I love it, it is something historic, and the board should be congratulated.

FC Barcelona to present new Barca-Shirt on 21st of June in Frankfurt, Germany

01st June 2006

The new FC Barcelona Home Jersey is based on the 1998/99 Centenary Season kit, which in turn paid hommage to the original shirt from 1899.

FC Barcelona will present their new Barca jersey for the 2006/7 season in a major presentation on the 21st of June in Frankfurt, just hours before the Argentina v Holland world cup match.

Barça will take advantage of the international stage and global World Cup audience in Germany to present the new editions of the famous "Barca Shirt" in flamboyant fashion. FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta, vice-presidents Marc Ingla and Ferran Soriano among other boad members will be present at the unveiling in Frankfurt.

US sports equipment producer Nike, sponsor of FC Barcelona since 1998 will go back to the club's roots with the new Barca kit. The new Barca kit will be similar to the first outfits worn in 1899 by FC Barcelona founder Joan Gamper & his friends and the Barca "Centenary" shirt (100th anniversary of Barca) in 1999. The shirt was devided in one blue half (left) and one red half (right) and also the shorts will be back to traditional blue.
The second Barca shirt will be a flourescent orange and the successful fluorescent yellow also known as the "lucky shirt" will be the third choice jersey for next season.

The new kit will also carry the words "més que un club" (more than a club).

Nike will go a less controversial route in their choice of shirts this year, deciding to 'play it safe' bygoing back to the proven original blue shorts and the first kit similar to the 1999 outfit, which was very well accepted by the Barca fans. Last year, the red shorts were heavily critized by the public but from a revenue point they had been a great success because sales of the shorts tripled.
