Lionel Messi like Maradona

sven
19th April 2007

Many times before, Barca youngster Lionel Messi has been branded the "new Maradona" but since yesterday night we know that there is some similarity.

It was brilliant Leo Messi´s second goal in the 5-2 win over Getafe at Camp Nou that stunned the supporters in the stadium and millions in front of the television with a goal that is difficult to be bettered all season.

Messi received the ball inside his own half before dribbling past 5 Getafe players before then rounding Getafe´s goalkeeper to finish before another defender did have a chance to clear the ball off the line.

As far as I remember only the Master himself, Diego Armando Maradona scored a similar goal against England in the World Cup of 1986 when he started his magical run from his own half to dribble past nearly the entire England team to round the goalkeeper to score this amazing goal.

His first goal in this game was the famous and controversial "Hand of God" Goal but his stunning second one, was worth to forgive him.

I will try to get the video of the goal and will post it later.

Barca young striker Maxi: Today could be a historical day

sven
23rd April 2006

Maxi López

Barça will be without attackers Leo Messi, Larsson and Ronaldinho in Sevilla. Even Cameroon striker Eto'o might get a rest. This could be the big chance for young striker Maxi at Sánchez Pizjuán. There is a good chance the hard working Argentinian will be in the starting line-up. Starter or as substitute, in any case it will be his opportunity to score a historic goal to seal the Spanish Championship title. This would be a great occassion for the young player who spent most of the season outside of the team or on the bench. Maxi has never given up and always worked hard to be 100% ready to take his chance when it will be provided to him. The motivation is there, the time has come and the young Barca striker deserves it.

Barca beat Milan´s San Siro record !

sven
19th April 2006

FC Barcelona´s heroic win at San Siro yesterday night was the first home defeat for Milan in nearly three years of European competition.

Barca´s superb victory should dent moral of the Milan team by smashing the impressive home record over the past Champions League seasons. It was Milan´s first European home defeat since December 2003 and Barca ended this 13-match unbeaten run. So far this season, Milan had won four of their home CL matches and conceded just one goalless draw against PSV Eindhoven.

The last time Barca beat Milan at San Siro was in the 1959-60 season when FC Barcelona won a European Cup match 0-2 with the goals scored by Vergés and Luis Suárez. Since that night, Barca had visited the legendary San Siro stadium on three occasions: losing twice and drawing once.

But also Barca can look back on an impressive record in Europe this season. With just one more game separating them from the Champions League Final in Paris on May 17th, Barca are enjoying a truly superb run in the Champions League. They have now played 11 matches, winning no less than 8 and conceding just 3 draws away to Panathinaikos (0-0), at home to Chelsea (1-1) and away to Benfica (0-0).
Barca's dominant role in the Champions League this year is also backed by the goals scored and conceded statistics. The Barcelona team scored 22 goals this season and this means no other team has scored more often than Barca. FC Barcelona also conceded only 4 goals. Only Arsenal, who have conceded 2 goals but with one game pending against Villarreal tonight have conceded less so far.

FC Barcelona star Ronaldinho always has a heart for children, especially the ones that are not so fortunate in life. Ronaldinho did not forget little girl Vanessa Islam to who the brazilian star made a very special and personal promise. He celebrated his goal in front of 100,000 supporters and all the TV cameras on Saturday in the manner of deaf and dumb people with his hands in the air in sign language. A special dedication from Ronaldinho!
promise is a promise

Last week, little girl Vanessa of 8 years, visited the training ground of FC Barcelona. After the end of the training session he run up to the girl, took her in her arms and talked to her. Then he made a special and very personal promise to the little girl and her father. He promised to celebrate a goal in the important match against Real Madrid in the manner of deaf and dumb people in sign language. And when he scored to put Barca into the lead, he ran to the sideline and raised his arms into the air and made the special signs for her.
