The Barca technician remains focussed on his goal of taking the Catalan giants to the desired level this year.
Rijkaard spoke and highlighted issues that affected the great club last year, and making clear prayers that the bad side of 2007 shall remain with the past and the the new year 2008 shall come with better tidings. Coach Frank touched on the popular Ronaldinho issue and gave hints on the future of Barca's reserve goalkeeper spot after the injury of Jorquera that shall see the keeper sidelined till August this year. First of all making his new year wishes, Rijkaard believes that:

The turn of the year is an important one. The change of year could be positive for the squad, above all on a psychological level. That is why 2008 must be welcomed in every sense. We hope that this year is a year that will be full of success. I do not agree that the league is lost. I continue to be an optimist. I am someone that think that we can still achieve a lot and we must not take on a negative dynamic.
On the barrage of criticism thrown at FC Barcelona for much of the new season, Rijkaard says:

People have talked a lot about our team. Much of the talk is more negative and full of criticism. I do not like to speak about mistakes. All the decisions that I took were for the good of the team. I have to accept the consequences of every decision. Before making a choice I think about it a lot and consider everything that it involves. After that, people can decide themselves if it was a mistake or a good choice. I always feel questioned. It is not just a matter of losing a game as it is normal that I am criticised. The criticism makes me work even harder.
Speaking on Brazilian magician, Ronaldinho, the Barca team manager was confident that Ronnie will not be shaken by what he's presently passing through, and that the midfield gem will be staying with the Blaugrana for sometime to come:

Ronaldinho is with us. Nobody has ever come to me with the view that he wants to leave. He is a Barcelona player and I would not like to see him go. My feeling is that he is back with a real desire to help the team and I think that he will be in great form, like the rest of the squad.
The Dutchman gave hints that a possible replacement for injured reserve keeper Albert Jorquera was on the way:

It is obvious that we have to do something after the loss of Jorquera. We have to find a solution until the end of the season. What is important is that we remain calm.
