Thierry Henry Consoles FC Barcelona Teammates

gabriel
24th October 2007

French legend Thierry Henry is all positive about the outcome of events against Rangers.

Thierry Henry has looked on the bright side of things after Barca secured a scoreless draw against Glasgow Rangers in the third match of the Uefa champions league. The result puts Barca still at their number one position, while Rangers maintain number two spot. Henry was mindful that Barca missed a lot of scoring chances and just couldn't find a way to put the ball behind the Glasgow defence and into the Rangers net. However, the French star believes the one point secured was still a good result if looked from the aspect of one additional point gained by the Catalan giants instead of none gained at the end of the day. Henry said:

We had possession and weren't in any danger but we caused a lot of danger for Rangers. At the end of the day we got the point. We had a very tough game in the league at Villarreal so to then come here and play away was tough but now we have two games at home and hopefully we can do the job and qualify. Well, it depends how you see it. Look at the performance of the game and sometimes it looked like we had four or five off the line. But in the Champions League, whoever you play, it is a good point. Especially as it was our first game back after the defeat at Villarreal. It is better to have one point and keep the distance from Lyon to be honest.

Henry is confident that Barca will stay on top of the group and top of their game all through the remaining champions league matches:

We now have two games at home and hopefully we can finish the job. Rangers got a vital point because now they have a good distance on Lyon. So we will see what can happen in two weeks. Lyon are back in contention but I think them losing at our ground 3-0 and then back home to Rangers 3-0 makes it difficult, so it will be a massive task to come back but you never know what can happen in football.

Lyon Coach Reveals Planned Gudjohnsen Swoop

gabriel
25th August 2007

Coach Alain Perrin speaks on aftermath of planned Gudjohnsen swoop.

Eidur Gudjohnsen was secretly being targeted by French club, Olympique Lyon, while the news was in the mills about Guddy going to Newcastle United, West Ham or Celtic of Scotland. However, just as the French giants were about to make a swoop, injury barred any further moves as Gudjohnsen was injured at Camp Nou, aborting all the plans to lure the former Bolton playmaker to Ligue 1. Lyon’s coach coach Alain Perrin, spoke on the issue and the search for a suitable replacement:

Indeed we asked for information about Gudjohnsen, but he seems injured at the moment. Lyon needs a player available quickly. We also watched Farfan, but it is an improbable trail. So, we go on looking, but we must admit in the current context we rather work by a process of elimination than real choices. Anelka? We have been interested in him for a while, but we understand he doesn't want to come back and play in France.

Gudjohnsen is thought to be more interested in a move to England, and should the Barca forward not be able to make a move before the summer window closes, the January options could still be open, or else, he will have to see out the remain months in his contract at Barcelona before deciding wether to head for France or England.

Abidal: Lyon And FC Barcelona Agree On Transfer

gabriel
29th June 2007

Olympique Lyon bow to Abidal's wish.

Olympique Lyonnaise star, Eric Abidal has finally had his wish granted by the French outfit, who had earlier frustrated the skillful French International over his heartfelt desire to be part of FC Barcelona's super squad for next season. Abidal, who had openly declared his intentions, held talks with Lyon President and other Board Members, and also had his agent sort out transfer issues well before the end of last season. However, all these were not enough to deter Lyon from pegging a high price of 20 Million Euros on their defender, a price thought to be quite high and a fee which Barca believed could have come down. Barcelona tabled a 12 Million Euro bid after two unsuccessful earlier attempts, and Lyonnaise officials agreed to at least continue negotiations, this time, with Abidal breathing down their necks. All seems to have gone well now and Abidal will be presented to FC Barcelona fans this weekend after going though the medicals today.
Speaking of the successful move to FC Barcelona, Abidal says:

Although the negotiations were long, I am gals it is now over and I can play for Barcelona. I have already familiarised myself with the city of Barcelona, having spent the last few days here. The city and people are wonderful and the culture is great.

Abidal has been prominent for both club and country. The three-time French league winner hopes to import his league winning experience to Barca ahead of the august La Liga commencement date this year. The French International will be Barca's third signing after the sensational signing of another French International, Thierry Henry and Ivorien strongman, Toure Yaya this week.

Toure Inches Closer To FC Barcelona

gabriel
22nd June 2007

AS Monaco player, Yaya Toure may berth in Camp Nou sooner than expected.

Among the five players who top the incoming players transfer list at Camp Nou, Yaya Toure may likely be the first to complete his crossover from France to Spain as FC Barcelona close in on the AS Monaco star.
Four other players have been short-listed in the first list drawn up by the Blaugrana. The players include Eric Abidal of Olympique Lyon, Christian Chivu of AS Roma, Jorge Andrade of Deprotivo La Coruna and Theirry Henry of Arsenal FC.

Talks on Yaya are said to have reached an advanced stage with only 3 Million Euros separating the young Ivorian from relocating to Spain. Barcelona are being asked by AS Monaco to increase their offer price to 12 Million Euros up from the 9 Million Euros Barca have put on the table. In order to sort things out on the Toure transfer, a weekend meeting in Spain has been scheduled between Yaya Toure's representative, Dimitri Selluyk, and FC Barcelona's Technical Director, Txiki Begiristain who will be in the company of Barca vice president Ferran Soriano.

Among other things on his mind, Selluyk wants to personally make Barcelona understand AS Monaco are insisting on the 12 Million Euro figure because the French Club has to honour their financial obligation in an old deal which requires Monaco to pay half of Toure's transfer fee from Metalurg Donetsk of Ukraine.

Yaya Toure himself has expressed interest in playing The Catalan giants and this decision of his has received a lot of support from various quarters including Gerard, former FC Barcelona player and Monaco teammate of Yaya.
