Barca Star Ronaldinho: 10 Goals in last 6 Matches at Camp Nou

sven
23rd December 2006

FC Barcelona´s "Magician" Ronaldinho, since the absence of Samuel Eto'o, Leo Messi and Javier Saviola, has turned into a real goal machine at home in Camp Nou. Barca´s Brazilian superstar has scored 10 goals in the last 6 league matches played at Camp Nou. Ronaldinho, now is the second top scorer in La Liga with 12 goals, just behind Sevilla´s Frederic Kanouté (14 goals), but still with 1 match in hand (against lowely Betis away).

Ronaldinho scored on average of nearly 1.7 goals in the last 6 home matches. When Ronaldinho scores, Barca usually wins. Out of the 6 matches, Barca won 5 and drew 1 (Sevilla (2 goals), Recreativo (2 goals), Zaragossa (2 goals), Villareal (2 goals), Real Sociadad (1 goal) and Athletico Madrid (1 goal). "Dinho" has scored his goals as following:
5 penalties, 2 freekicks, 2 headers and 3 with his feet (including his memorable overhead kick against Villareal).

Due to the fact that Ronaldinho is suspended in the home clash against Getafe (6/7th of January), Catalan neighbours Nastic (Tarragona) could be his next victims (January).

But Brazilian international Ronaldinho is not only Barca´s top scorer. "R10" is the field player who has played the most minutes at camp Nou (1,177) followed close by Deco (1,147). But goalkeeper Victor Valdes is the player who has played the most minutes at Camp Nou (1,421).

07th November 2006

Barca´s samuel Eto'o has won the "Pichichi" Award for being the top scorer with 26 goals last season. Samuel Eto'o will travel to Madrid to collect the "Pichichi" Award, a prize that is presented to the leading goalscorer of each season by sports newspaper Marca. The Cameroon international Eto'o won the "Pichichi" for the first time in his career. Young David Villa of Valencia came second last season. Both Samuel Eto'o and Valencia striker David Villa scored 25 times before the last match day, but Eto'o´s goal in Bilbao was just enough to overtake Villa on the final match day and made him the 9th Barca player to collect the award.

Former Barca Player´s who won the "Pichichi" have been:

Mariano Martín (1942-43)
César (1948-49)

Re (1964-65)
Reixach (1970-71)

Krankl (1978-79)
Quini (1980-81 and 81-82)

Romàrio (1993-94)
Ronaldo (1996-97)

This year, unfortunately, a long term injury will prevent Samuel Eto'o probably to defend his title as top scorer of Spain.

Eto'o was in splendid form and well on course to repeat last seasons success. He scored 4 times in Barça's first four games but the unfortunate injury in the Champions League match against Werder Bremen ended his hopes means early.

Barca´s top scorer Samuel Eto'o wins the Pichichi Award with 26 goals

sven
22nd May 2006

FC Barcelona´s striker Samuel Eto'o scored 26th goal goals this season. An astonishing amount considering he was absence for nearly 2 month due to the African Cup of Nations. His goal against Athletic Bilbao on Saturday made him the sole leader in La Liga, followed by young striker David Villa from FC Valencia. For the tenth time, the leading goalscorer in the Spanish First Division is a FC Barcelona player. Nine different players in a Barca shirt have all finished top scorer in the Spanish Primera Liga: Mariano Martín (1942-43), César Rodríguez (1948-49), Cayetano Re (1964-65), Carles Rexach (1970-71), Hans Krankl (1978-79), "Quini"(twice: 1980-81 and 1981-82), Romario (1993-94), Ronaldo (1996-97) and now Samuel Eto'o in the season 2005/2006.

The highest goal scorer ever in a Barcelona jersey was Ronaldo with 34 goals in the season 1996-97.

Barca´s Eto'o and Valencia´s Villa were both on 25 goals before Barca had to play the last match of the season. Due to the fact that Samuel Eto'o had to play for his country Cameroon in the African Cup of Nations, Eto'o was only able to play 33 matches. His goal average is impressive: 0.76 goals per game. David Villa played 37 and has a goal average of 0.68 per game played.

FC Barcelona Blog knows how much Samuel desired this Pichichi Award having lost out on the final match day to Villareal´s Diego Forlan last season. We congratulate Sammy to the best goalscorer award in La Liga this season!

Match Report:

Atletic Bilbao players offered Barcelona the traditional guard of honour in recognition of Barcelona's league and Champions League double.

Barca started with only three of their regular players, Oleguer, Samuel Eto'o and Ludovic Giuly but filled the rest of the squad with some talented youngsters from the Barca B and C team. Despite the disadvantage not being able to field their world cup players, the young Barca team showed a good performance and controlled the match and kept possession for the most of the time. Barca produced two clear goalscoring chances in the first 30 minutes. Maxi López's strike hit the post, while Atletic goalkeeper Lafuente was able to save an Eto'o shot from inside the area with his feet. the consequence of Barca´s domination resulted in Barcelona's lead 10 minutes before halt time. Ludovic initiated a counter attack and passed the ball to Samuel Eto'o who finished with a strong shot from outside the penalty box. this was the 1-0 lead for Barça, and the Pichichi trophy for Eto'o with 26 goals in La Liga only.

Atletic took only 11 minutes in the second have to equal the score through Iraola. Atletic substitute Felipe Guréndez made it 2-1 with eleven minutes left to play. Barca´s Thiago Motta and Julen Guerrero clased in an unfortunate and the match should have been stopped, but Felipe Guréndez shot from long distance and score the second goal for Atletic. Two minutes later, it was unlucky Oleguer Preseas who tried to clear the ball, but put the ball in his own net to make it 3-1 in favour of atletic Bilbao.

The highlight of the match was definetely Samuel Eto'o securing the Pichichi Award for the best goal scorer this season. Barca´s Eto'o scored an amazing 26 goals, even he spent some considerable time at the African Nations Cup this year.

Remarkable also the performance of the Barca youngsters. Young talents Olmo, Orlandi and Ludovic started for Barcelona in Bilbao and impressed with their performances. Jesús Olmo, a young Barca C player looked remarkable composed at centre back on his first team debut. Ludovic played a solid role and assited Samuel Eto'o to score the important goal. Orlandi played very well on the left and caused plenty of danger out there. Unfortunately the youngster had to be replaced by Martos due to injury.

It was a meaningless goal where the reserve players and some youngster got their chance. they did not disappoint and especially for the Barca youngsters it was a great experience and motivation to play in La Liga.

The season is over now. Barca is Spanish Champion and European Cup winner.

FC Barcelona Blog congratulates are people involve and also to all Barca fans around the World. all the best for next season.
Visca el Barca!
