Italian Stefano Farina will be the referee of the UEFA Champions League match between FC Barcelona and Chelsea on Tuesday night at Camp Nou.
Barca supporters have bad memories about the last match the Italian referee Farina was involved: The 0-3 European Super Cup defeat against FC Sevilla last August in Monaco!

44-year-old Stefano Farina is an international referee since 1995 but has never been in charge of a game at Camp Nou before. In fact, the only time he was in charge of any match involving Barca was the Super Cup Final on 25th of August in 2006. Farina has also never been in charge of a Chelsea match before.

The UEFA today officially announced that linesman Ole Hermann Borgan will be replaced by Norwegian compatriot Arild Sundet.


Borgan was accussed of wearing a Barca shirt for a newspaper.
Uefa´s referee comittee took the decision to replace the "Barca fan" even though he explained that it was a silly thing to do and he is not a supporter of the Club.

Arild Sundet will travel tomorrow to Paris to complete the refereeing trio that will appear in the Championes league final.

German Markus Merk, one of the best referees in Europe, has been appointed by UEFA as the match referee for Barca v Milan at Camp Nou on Wednesday night. This is the 10th time that Merk will be the referee in a match that involves FC Barcelona: 3 wins, 3 draws and 3 losses. The last match was the Champions League clash between FC Barcelona v Chelsea that ended 1-1 this year.

The referee Teixeira Vitienes is going out shortly to inspect the pitch but it looks like he will suspend the match. The football field looks like a swimming pool and the rain/hail does not stop.

UEFA has appointed Mr. Alain Sars (France) as the referee for the Champions League semi final match between AC Milan and FC Barcelona. The combination of referee Sars and FC Barcelona has a 100% winning record. Frenchman Alain Sars has taken charge of two previous Barça matches in Europe and both have resulted in wins for FC Barcelona. The first was in the early rounds of the 95-96 UEFA Cup, when the side was coached by Johan Cruyff and beat Vitoria Guimaraes 3-0. Barcelona's second meeting with Sars was in the 1999-2000 Champions League, when they won 2-1 away to Swedish club AIK Solna.
