FC Barcelona players Lionel Messi and Víctor Valdés have both welcomed the news that Ronaldinho has committed himself to FC Barcelona and put an end to all the speculation linking him with a move to Italy or even the USA.


Messi and Valdes expressed both that Ronnies commitment to the Blaugrana will be a boost to the team and the fans in the challenge to defend their Spanish title for the third time in a row.


Ronaldinho and his agent and brother Roberto de Assis announced that they are happy in Barcelona and that a contract extention could be soon on the agenda. Talks last Saturday have been positive.


Victor Valdes stated:

It is great news for Barça and for the fans that Ronaldinho has decided to stay because we will all be a lot calmer now. He is magical and is in a great run of form. He can be so effective and his goals have helped us a lot.

Messi added:

We all very relaxed and we have always said that the rumours do not affect us. It is very important that Ronaldinho is staying with us and it is great news that he is staying at the club.

AC Milan´s vice-president Adriano Galliani stated that Ronaldinho's much publicized possible move to Milan will be very difficult to materialize. He also added that he does not want to deceive the Milan fans by generating any hopes for a possible transfer of the Barzilian superstar from Barcelona to the Rossoneri:

I don't want to talk about Ronaldinho, because I get nervous when on the Madrid side they talk about Kaka. Barcelona knows that if they decide to sell him, we will do everything we can, but I doubt this will happen. Barcelona earns more than us, has lower costs due to a different taxation and I don't understand why they would want to lose such an important player. I don't want to deceive our fans.

Ronaldinho's agent and brother Roberto de Assis met FC Barcelona´s president Joan Laporta for discussions about an extension of Ronaldinho´s contract on Saturday. It appears that the talks have been very positive, regarding that Laporta is confident that "dinho" is happy at Barca and puplicly claimed that Ronnie could stay for the rest of his life at Camp Nou. Also Roberto de Assis the former Paris Saint Germain ace is happy at Barcelona and reiterated his wish for Ronaldinho to stay at the club.


Also Ronadinho´s brother Roberto confirmed that the initial talks are going well and that despite the rumours linking Ronnie to Milan that people should relax about the situation.


Laporta told Catalan television station TV3:

Ronaldinho is happy at Barcelona. We have him here for many years to come because it is what both parties want. He is a reference for the club. He has given us a great image around the world and on the sporting side Frank Rijkaard is delighted with him. He will be here for many years because he deserves it. He can stay as long as he likes.

Roberto de Assis confirmed that there is nothing to worry about the player´s stay at Barcelona:

In the meeting we started putting together the future. Everyone should relax because it is all going well.

After the match Brazilian superstar Ronaldinho explained why he celebrated his two goals with an unusual gesture:

I celebrated with my palms facing upwards, because a small girl asked me to do that if I scored. She was very supportive, while I was out injured.

FC Barcelona´s superstar Ronaldinho has denied any rumours that he could quit Barca in the summer after being linked to Chelsea FC, AC Milan and even the MLS. The Brazilian magician claims he has no intention of leaving the European Champions. Ronaldinho was extremely successful during the last 3 year in Barcelona winning back-to-back Spanish Championships, Spanish Super Cup and the European Cup last May. On a personal level he was voted Wold´s Best Player in 2004 and 2005 as well as winning several other Awards. ronaldinho expressed his desire to win much more trophies with the Blaugrana in future.


Ronaldinho appreciates the interest of other European top clubs, such as Chelsea and AC Milan, despite not willing to leave Camp Nou:

Chelsea are a great club and it is always good to know, that your work is being seen and that people appreciate it. But the only thing I am thinking about is Barca and I want to do everything I can to continue to help the team. Now, I am only focusing on Barca because I am very happy here. I have not considered playing for any other club and I want to finish the season like the last couple of seasons, playing well and winning titles. The only thing, I think about, is staying here!
