FC Barcelona's Gudjohnsen Returns To Full Fitness

gabriel
11th September 2007

After battling injury, Gudjohnsen returns to Barca to stage a second battle for regular playing time.

FC Barcelona striker, Eidur Gudjohnsen has been declared fit by the Barca medical team and will have his first test of match fitness against Northern Ireland on Wednesday in the Euro 2008 qualifiers involving Eidur's home country Iceland and the Irish football side. Gudjohnsen was in the midst of a transfer out of Barca when his injury occured, leaving the former Chelsea and Bolton Wanderers striker in the cold. The Icelandic star was still encouraged to continue transfer talks despite the injury, but preferred to remain in Camp Nou refusing suggestions to pursue talks with the likes of Manchester United , West Ham and Celtic of Scotland.

Barca's coach Frank Rijkaard, commented on the return of Eidur Gudjohnsen, saying:

Gudjohnsen has recovered from his injury and he worked hard to do that. He is one more member of the squad right now.

Eidur is currently not in the starting line up for FC Barcelona and is also not a top favoured player for the substitute bench. Gudjohnsen is reportedly considering also playing in the attacking midfield position or even in the central midfield in addition to his striker role at Barcelona in order to give himself more playing options and higher possibility of playing more regularly than he will be doing this season as an all-out striker for the over-crowded Blaugrana attacking line.

FC Barcelona's Motta Still In AC Milan Books

ex-Barca b man eager to beat the August 31 transfer deadline.

Thiago Motta still has chances of joining Italian club, AC Milan after the Rossoneri renewed interest in the Italian-Brazilian player. Motta, who has been unable to secure a free transfer from Barca, is keen on a move this summer and getting more apprehensive as the August 31 transfer deadline approaches. West ham United and Tottenham are also being mentioned in connection with Thiago. The former Barca B player is worth some Euros, and could be let go for 4 million Euros even though his skills and talents mean he's worth more than that. However, Thiago has to move and this is just what he's in the process of doing.

Big Sam, West Ham Strengthen Chase For Gudjohnsen

gabriel
13th July 2007

Gudjohnsen must decide on his future soon.

FC Barcelona's Icelandic star, Eidur Gudjohnsen is still being courted by clubs in the English Premiership, where it is now more likely Gudjohnsen will be playing instead of in Scotland for Celtic United or remaining at Barcelona next season. Premeirship clubs, Newcastle United and West Ham are indicating interest in Gudjohnsen, with the Magpies having an edge in the chase, courtesy of their new coach, Sam Allardyce, who is keen on re-uniting with Gudjohnsen after the pair parted ways in Bolton, where Big Sam featured the Iceland striker very prominently. Arnor Gudjohnsen, the agent and father of Eidur, wants his son to remain at Barca next season but there seems to be very little prospects of Eidur featuring regularly for the Blaugrana as the forwad line seems filled up with the trio of Samuel Eto'o, Theirry Henry and Lionel Messi all looking to strike with an able attacking formation to be formed with support from attacking midfield dynamo, Ronaldinho. Also, the coming of goal machine Bojan Krkic and the impressive Giovanni Dos Santos from the Barcelona B team to support the senior team attack will further eclipse Gudjohnsen's chances of playing for FC Barcelona next season. Inspite of all this however, Arnor insists Eidur should remain in Camp Nou and fight for a place in the attack, proposing an alternation between Gudjohnsen and some of the Barcelona attackers, a system that will be very hard for Camp Nou officials to implement.

Tevez to Barcelona just speculation

sven
03rd November 2006

Carlos Tevez's agent Adrian Ruocco claims that rumours of a possible FC Barcelona offer for the Argentine international is pure speculation.
English tabloid reports suggested that FC Barcelona enquired about unhappy Carlos Tevez as another attacking option to cover for injured Samuel Eto'o in the January transfer window. However, Tevez's agent Roucco insists he or West Ham United have not heard or spoken to Barca and the stories are purely a media stunt:

These kind of things are always managed through formal offers," Roucco told Ole. If there is anything, the player and I have to be informed. If I have not been told anything it means that there's nothing official. All the rest is speculation and it has been going on for several months. Up to now, there has been no official offer. It is all speculation. If it wasn't, this information would be more important. Tevez stays at West Ham United.
