The victorious Barca squad deserved their victory and their praises after stunning Lyon 3-0. The Blaugrana players respond in speech.
Lionel Messi:
We got the result we wanted against a good team and put on a good show. We created a lot of chances in the first half. We tired a little and the rhythm dropped in the second, but we went on to pick it up again at the end. We are very pleased.
Xavi Hernandez :
Today, we have shown resurgence. People expect much of us. The club has arranged a great attack for us so that we might obtain titles; two draws in three games wasn't good in that respect. But today we're happy because we played a good match. This is a results business, but mister Rijkaard is calm. He's happy with the result, has congratulated us, and says we need to continue in this vein. I'm happy to have played so much in Europe. Now I hope that this translates into titles, and that we can become Champions for a third time.
The players who made their debut also shared their experiences:
Gabriel Milito :
All players dream of a Champions League appearance and, for me, it's a dream to make a debut particularly for a club like this. We had a great match and played well. We shall continue to work hard.
Bojan Krkic:
It was such a great moment for me. I was happy enough just to be on the bench, but seeing the public cheer and the loud ovation when I took to the pitch was just incredible. It's a feeling that is impossible to explain.
Giovani dos Santos :
This a dream come true. Every player wants to attain this level and play in the Champions league. This has come true for me and I am very happy to be given the opportunity. Bojan and I will work hard to continue to impress the boss. We all played a good match and were serious from the blast of the whistle to the very end.
Andrés Iniesta:
It wasn’t an easy game. The team got in front and dominated a good part of the match. We were up against a great team and they didn’t make life easy for us. Every game will be like a Cup final and it’s important that the team has started with a win. It gives us confidence. The most important thing is that the team has the right attitude. We have to be united. If we all pull in the same direction, it’ll be Barça that comes out winning. The Sevilla match will be very tricky. They’re a compact team. We want to keep on winning in the league.
Gianluca Zambrotta:
We played well and created a lot of chances. We could have won by a bigger margin but we’re happy with the way Barça played. When we play at home the matches are easier for us. We worked well as a team today and created a lot of chances. Once again we found a winning mentality. This result will boost our confidence for the matches ahead, starting with Saturday’s game against Sevilla.
In the next UEFA Champions League round of group matches, FC Barcelona will play VfB Stuttgart, while second placed Glasgow Rangers will face Olympique Lyon.

FC Barcelona received some good news yesterday ahead of the away game in Mallorca: Xavi Hernandez and Andres Iniesta returned to training on Thursday.
Both, Xavi and Iniesta, could be able to play against Real Mallorca this weekend. With Edmilson out due to an ankle injury and Thiago Motta being suspended, the good news will be of delight to Barca coach Frank Rijkaard.
Xavi failed to complete training earlier in the week, but stayed until the end on Thursday without any signs of discomfort and declared that he should be fit for the game on Sunday.

FC Barcelona have been left with only one midfielder, available for selection: Deco
Not only the long term injuries of Samuel Eto´o, Leo Messi and Saviola give Barca boss Frank Rijkaard a headache but also recent injuries of Andres Iniesta, Edmilson and the red card of Thiago Motta cause immense problems in the midfield department.
But there have been announced some positive news from the medical departement yesterday. Xavi will be fit enough to travel to Mallorca, despite doubts about his match fitness. The Barcelona midfielder was injured two weeks ago in the 2-2 draw against Chelsea and has missed the three games since, against Recreativo Huelva, CF Badalona and Real Zaragoza.
However, the Spanish international has been declared fit by the medical staff, though they are still worried about his match fitness:
The only thing he needs is to regain match fitness. After being out for so many days, his muscles could have suffered.
Xavi Hernandez will return to training this morning but is expected to train separately over the next few days.
